+ Free ShippingWe believe that education is the most valuable contribution osteology can offer, and that each human specimen plays a vital role in advancing scientific knowledge. These specimens are generously provided by retired physicians, medical researchers, dental professionals, and former university medical programs. Additionally, we collaborate with accredited donor programs. A select collection of specimens—often antiques that do not meet the criteria for medical or research-grade use—are made available to osteology enthusiasts around the world, allowing them to continue their educational efforts and share knowledge.
Homo sapiens, or humans, are distinguished by their bipedal locomotion, advanced manual dexterity, cognitive abilities, and extensive use of tools, setting them apart from other species. Modern humans are believed to have evolved from early hominid ancestors between 200,000 and 300,000 years ago. Fossils of the earliest members of our species, known as archaic Homo sapiens, have been exclusively discovered in Africa. The adult human skeletal system is comprised of 206 bones, including those of the skull, but excluding the teeth.
